It’s often not a big deal when brushing, and there’s a bit of blood. But sometimes, it could indicate an underlying problem you shouldn’t dismiss. Some of the things that could cause bleeding could include:
- Brushing rigorously
- Inflammation or
All these can contribute to bleeding gum. If your gum is bleeding, it can signify periodontal diseases such as periodontitis or gingivitis. Once you identify the cause, you can treat it using any of these possible ways:
1. Regular oral hygiene
Your gum will likely bleed when you’re lagging in your oral hygiene. That is because your gum can become inflamed when plaque builds up along the gum line. When you fail to brush and floss daily, the bacteria can spread and cause tooth decay or gum disease.
If your gum suddenly starts bleeding while brushing, that’s a good sign that you might want to pay more attention to your oral health. But, first, you must make it a habit to brush your teeth twice a day, coupled with flossing.
2. Rinse your mouth with hydrogen peroxide
If you have this solution, it can be pretty helpful as a disinfectant. Also, it helps remove plaque, stop gum bleeding and promote gum health. However, make sure you don’t swallow the solution.
If you don’t have hydrogen peroxide, you can use a home remedy, such as gaggling a warm salty solution. Do this for three days, and you’d be surprised at the result. But if the problem persists, you might want to visit your dentist.
3. Stop Smoking
If you smoke, perhaps now is the time to quit for your oral health. You will also save yourself from lung cancer, heart disease, and stroke, often due to smoking. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, smoking is a major cause of gum disease in the US.
Furthermore, smoking can drastically lower your immune system, making it quite hard for your body to fight diseases and infections that could lead to gum disease. So while quitting if you’re addicted may be hard, you’d be doing yourself good.
4. Manage your stress level
Studies have shown a link between periodontal disease and emotional stress. Also, it can affect your immune system, resulting in your body’s defensive system being weak against diseases and infections.
Setting time to relax and meditate can help relieve stress, resulting in healthy oral and overall health.
