CEREC Dental Restorations
What Is CEREC?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEramic REConstruction. This software is the latest technological advancement in cosmetic dentistry and allows dentists to prepare a tooth and install a crown in the same visit.
What Are The Indications For Using CEREC?
Your dentist might decide to use CEREC to create a crown to cover a cracked or weak tooth, an implant, a tooth with a large filling, or one that has undergone a root canal.
What Is A Dental Crown Made Of?
Traditional crowns can be created from several materials including metal, porcelain, ceramic or resin. With CEREC, crowns are created from ceramic, which is the most desirable material to produce a natural looking and long-lasting tooth cap.
What Is The Difference Between The Old Way and The CEREC Way?
With CEREC, your dentist is in control from start to finish. They will begin by prepping the tooth and taking digital images of the tooth to be capped and the adjacent teeth. Your dentist then uses software to design the tooth restoration and the crown is created in the office while you sit comfortably waiting. The traditional method requires your dentist to make a mold of the tooth that will receive the crown and send it to a lab. This means two visits to your dentist, and if the crown does not fit the tooth properly, your dentist would have been forced to redo the process and wait for a new crown from the lab. CEREC now allows for the procedure to be completed in one visit, and if the crown needs to be recreated, your dentist can accomplish it right then and there.
Why Is CEREC Technology Beneficial To You?
Not only does CEREC allow your dentist to complete your restoration in one visit, it also produces a more customized, precise fit for a natural appearance that was previously impossible to achieve.
